Our Story
MerchantSwitch began in 1998 when Robert Thompson, a former bank manager, saw local businesses struggling with unfair payment processing fees. Having worked in merchant services for nearly two decades, he knew businesses were being overcharged simply because they did not have time to compare providers or negotiate rates.
Robert started helping friends and family switch to better providers in his spare time. Word spread quickly across Nottinghamshire about the "honest broker" who actually saved businesses money. What started as evenings and weekends soon became a full-time mission.
In 2010, Robert's son Richard joined the business, bringing fresh energy and modern technology to the operation. Together, they expanded beyond card machines into merchant cash advances and business energy—always with the same principle: independent advice that puts the client first.
Today, Richard leads MerchantSwitch with the same values his father instilled—transparency, fair dealing, and genuine care for every client.
