What Zettle costs per year, worked out
Zettle by PayPal charges 1.75% flat on in-person payments with no contract and no monthly fee. The first reader costs £29 (full price £69); the full terminal is £149, or £199 with a built-in barcode scanner.
| Monthly card sales | Transaction fees/yr | Fixed costs/yr | Total/yr |
|---|---|---|---|
| £1,000 | £210 | £0 | £210 |
| £2,000 | £420 | £0 | £420 |
| £5,000 | £1,050 | £0 | £1,050 |
| £10,000 | £2,100 | £0 | £2,100 |
How the sums work
Yearly transaction cost is monthly card sales × 12 × 1.75%. Zettle's rate matches Square's and sits just above SumUp's 1.69%, so between the three the decision is usually hardware and ecosystem rather than rate: Zettle's pull is deep PayPal integration and cheap first hardware. Above roughly £4,500 a month, a lower published or negotiated rate beats any of the flat-rate readers - run the full calculator to see by how much.
