About MerchantSwitch
Editorial standards & research methodology
This page explains exactly how MerchantSwitch content is researched and who is behind it, so you can judge whether to trust our numbers, and so you know how to tell us when we get one wrong.
Who writes and reviews this content
Guides, comparisons and the rates database are written and reviewed by Adam Mable, payments researcher at MerchantSwitch: 15 years in UK merchant acquiring, covering acquirer pricing, interchange and card terminal contracts.
Where our numbers come from
- Published pricing pages of UK payment providers (SumUp, Zettle, Square, Worldpay, Barclaycard, Tyl, Teya and others), checked directly, not copied from other comparison sites.
- Where a provider only offers bespoke pricing (for example Dojo), we say so and give the typical range we see, rather than inventing a single headline rate.
- Worked cost examples state their assumptions (monthly card volume, average transaction) so you can check the arithmetic yourself. See the full UK card machine rates table for our provider-by-provider data.
How often we update
Provider rates and contract terms were last checked in August 2026. Every article carries its real publication and last-updated dates. We never forward-date content to look fresher than it is.
Independence and how we make money
- MerchantSwitch is free for businesses. We may receive a referral fee from a provider when a switch completes.
- No provider pays for placement in our comparisons, tables or verdicts.
- We are an introducer, not a financial adviser, and we are not authorised or regulated by the FCA. Nothing on this site is financial advice.
Corrections
If you spot a rate, fee or fact that is wrong or out of date, email hello@merchantswitch.com with a link to the page. We check corrections against the provider's published pricing and update the page, including its last-updated date.
What we won't do
- No invented reviews, testimonials or star ratings.
- No fabricated customer counts or savings totals.
- No claims we can't back with a source you can check.
