Viva Wallet Review UK 2026: Fees & Terms
Viva Wallet charges the same 1.69% as SumUp on UK consumer cards, then adds a plan or terminal fee and terminals from £220.00 + VAT, so for a single UK shop it is rarely the cheapest option.
Verdict
At £5,000 a month Viva costs £86.20 on its cheapest in-person setup, against £84.50 on SumUp and £87.50 on Square. What you get for the difference is real-time settlement and a wide choice of Android terminals. Read the account term before signing. Account terms: 12-month Initial Term, renewing automatically for one-year periods.
Limited companies running several tills or sites that want instant access to takings and a choice of countertop and handheld Android terminals
You are a single shop that only needs a reader (SumUp charges the same rate with cheaper hardware), or a sole trader wanting a terminal on a monthly plan, which viva.com does not offer you

What Viva Wallet costs
viva.com splits its UK pricing in two. Personal cards issued in the UK pay one published rate, 1.69%. Everything else (business cards, European and international cards) pays the card scheme's interchange and scheme fees at cost plus a 1.16% viva.com fee, which means you only find out the all-in cost of those payments on your statement. On top of the transaction fees sits a subscription plan.

The £5,000 a month shop, worked through
Our house example: £5,000 a month on cards, a £25 average sale (200 payments), all on UK personal cards and one terminal. The 1.69% on a £25 sale is £0.42, above the minimum fee, so the minimum never applies here.
- • Viva on the Zero plan: £5,000 × 1.69% = £84.50, plus £1.70 for one active terminal. Total £86.20/month (the acquiring fees already clear the £3.99 minimum invoice)
- • Viva on the Default plan: £84.50 + £3.99 = £88.49/month
- • SumUp at 1.69%: £5,000 × 1.69% = £84.50/month
- • Square at 1.75%: £5,000 × 1.75% = £87.50/month
Viva lands £1.70 a month above SumUp and £1.30 below Square. Against SumUp the gap is the £1.70 terminal charge at any volume, because the percentage is identical. The real difference is hardware. Viva terminals start at £220.00 + VAT, against £79 ex VAT for a SumUp Solo.
| Option | Monthly cost | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Viva, Zero plan | £86.20 | 1.69% plus £1.70 for one active terminal |
| Viva, Default plan | £88.49 | 1.69% plus £3.99 a month |
| SumUp (1.69%) | £84.50 | |
| Square (1.75%) | £87.50 |
| Card takings a month | Viva Zero | SumUp | Square |
|---|---|---|---|
| £1,000 | £18.60 | £16.90 | £17.50 |
| £2,500 | £43.95 | £42.25 | £43.75 |
| £5,000 | £86.20 | £84.50 | £87.50 |
| £7,500 | £128.45 | £126.75 | £131.25 |
| £10,000 | £170.70 | £169.00 | £175.00 |
The figure above is the best case. Any business, European or international card in the mix is priced at interchange plus scheme fees plus 1.16%, and viva.com publishes no all-in figure for those. If you take payments on a phone with the Viva.com Terminal app, the £0.10 minimum applies to any sale under about £5.92, so a coffee cart selling £3 drinks pays more than 1.69%. viva.com does not say whether a phone running the app counts as an active terminal for the £1.70 monthly charge: that is Not published.

viva.com sells third-party Android terminals from PAX, Sunmi and Ciontek rather than its own design, and most come with the Viva.com Terminal app installed. The cheapest bought countertop unit, the PAX A80 at £220.00 + VAT, costs well over double a SumUp Solo at £79 ex VAT. If you only need contactless, Tap on Any Device lets you accept payments on an iPhone or NFC-enabled Android phone, with no terminal to buy.
Who should stay put, and who should switch
Stay put if you already own your terminals or use real-time settlement to run the business day to day. Viva's UK consumer rate is the same as SumUp's, so moving to SumUp saves £1.70 a month (£20.40 a year) at any volume, less than the price of a new reader. Check the notice rules above before you give notice, because the renewal date matters.
Switch if your volume has grown to the point where a bespoke rate below 1.69% is on offer: get a written quote from a full-service provider such as Dojo and hold it against your viva.com statement. Time any move to your renewal date and settle any terminal cost first. If a big share of your takings comes from business cards, ask for a statement review before you decide, because the interchange-plus pricing on those cards can move the answer either way.
