SumUp POS Review: Goodtill, Plans and Fees
SumUp POS costs nothing on the Free plan, £39 a month for POS Plus and £49 a month ex VAT for Point of Sale Pro, the iPad till SumUp bought as Goodtill. For a counter-service café the free plan is enough; Pro earns its fee only when you need table service, kitchen screens or deeper stock control.
Checked 1 November 2026 on SumUp's POS Pro pricing page and SumUp's UK pricing page. This page covers the till; for the card reader itself, read our SumUp review.
SumUp POS and Goodtill
SumUp announced on 19 November 2020 that it had bought Goodtill, a London-based point of sale software provider for restaurant, events and hospitality businesses. The Goodtill product lives on as Point of Sale Pro, which runs on your own iPad. The Point of Sale Pro back office still runs at pos.thegoodtill.com, which is why searches for "pos.goodtill" and "the Good Till" still lead to SumUp.

Checked 1 November 2026. Goodeats online ordering on Pro adds 1.7% + 12p per order for table orders and 2.7% + 12p per order for delivery and collection. Hardware prices: not published on SumUp's POS pricing pages.
Worked example: the £5,000 a month café
Card fees at SumUp's 1.69%: £5,000 × 1.69% = £84.50 a month. Then:
- Free POS: £0 + £84.50 = £84.50/month
- POS Plus: £39 + £84.50 = £123.50/month (software ex VAT)
- Point of Sale Pro with the hospitality module: £49 + £19 + £84.50 = £152.50/month (software ex VAT)
- Add one kitchen display screen: software rises to £68 + £19 = £87/month ex VAT before card fees
The jump from Free to Pro with tables is £68 a month, or £816 a year ex VAT. A café that serves at the counter does not need it. A sit-down café or bar that runs tabs and sends tickets to the kitchen probably does, and at that point the useful comparison is Pro against Toast or Zonal's akru, not against the free plan.
Using another card machine with SumUp POS
Point of Sale Pro lists "Connect with card reader of choice" as included, so you are not forced onto SumUp's 1.69%. That matters as takings grow: on £5,000 a month every 0.1 percentage point is £5.00 a month. Once card sales are well past a few thousand pounds a month, check whether a monthly-fee card plan beats the flat rate with our free statement review. The Free and Plus plans run on SumUp's own hardware, so they assume SumUp payments.
Support and contract
SumUp lists live chat Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, weekends 8am to 7pm, plus phone and email for Point of Sale Pro. Minimum term: not published on any of the POS pages we checked. Ask for it, and for the notice period, before you commit to a paid plan.

Frequently asked questions
Is SumUp POS the same as Goodtill?
Yes, in effect. SumUp bought Goodtill, a London-based point of sale software provider for restaurant, events and hospitality businesses, on 19 November 2020. Goodtill's iPad till is now sold as Point of Sale Pro, and the Point of Sale Pro back office still runs at pos.thegoodtill.com.
How much does the SumUp POS system cost?
Free POS is £0. POS Plus is £39/month excl. VAT. Point of Sale Pro is £49/month excluding VAT with a £0 onboarding fee, and its add-on modules (stock, kitchen display, loyalty, promotions, reporting, hospitality) are £19/month each. Card payments are on top at 1.69% with SumUp pay-as-you-go (checked 1 November 2026).
Can I use another card machine with SumUp POS Pro?
Yes. SumUp's Point of Sale Pro pricing page lists "Connect with card reader of choice" as included, alongside connecting a SumUp reader. On £5,000 a month, each 0.1 percentage point of card rate is £5.00 a month, so it is worth comparing.
Does SumUp POS work with a receipt printer?
Yes. Free POS supports a single printer, and POS Plus adds barcode scanners, multiple printers, deposit management and preset discounts. SumUp does not list hardware prices on its POS pricing pages.
Is there a SumUp POS contract?
Not published. None of SumUp's POS pages we checked state a minimum term or notice period, so ask for it in writing before you sign up to a paid plan.
